Pink

I seem to be cutting in color groups lately. Here are two new pink stones. The first one is an Umbalite Garnet cut in a high dome crown design. This design is by the late Jeff Graham and features a star of David in the crown faceting. These dome cuts show what I always say, that proportions in colored stones don't mean anything. The crown is as high as the pavilion is deep on this stone. So many times people ask me about the depth of a stone and ratio of table diameter to stone diameter etc. These things may be useful in judging diamonds, but really mean nothing in colored stones with all the various designs and materials used. The only way to judge a stone is to look at it. Trust your eyes, don't look for an equation.

This next stone is a pink Spinel from Tajikistan. I cut this in a pretty traditional shape oval barion design. This stone is just shy of 3 cts, so it's a very nice size for spinel.
